Still wants to explore smaller game ideas and train the next generation of designers

Fear not internet, for Shigeru Miyamoto is not stepping down from his current position as Nintendos driving creative force. It was all a misunderstanding on Wireds behalf, Nintendo has since clarified. In a statement the company said that

"Video game designer Shigeru Miyamotos role at Nintendo is not changing. He will continue to be a driving force in Nintendos development efforts."

It seems that an anecdote Miyamoto told about his occasional desires to retire to help the next lot of designers assume more responsibility was misinterpreted, leading to this ruckus. Its good that hes not retiring though, as itd be a shame to miss out on his playful antics at E3 every year. When hes up on stage and clearly having a ball talking about his games in front of everyone, its hard not to see why it was this guy who made Nintendo what it is today.

In the statement, Nintendo interestingly chose to again mention his desire to work on smaller projects, so lets all keep our eyes peeled for some Miyamoto-ware. My bodys sure as hell ready.
