Sharp to supply Nintendo with ‘free-form’ LCD screen in future
Nintendo is always working away in its headquarters on some, new consoles of course and whatever that Quality of Life stuff is going to be. We of course have no idea what they’re working on outside of what they want us to know but every so often you get a morsel of information. Today is that day.
It’s being reported that Nintendo is working in concert with technology company Sharp. The two companies are said to be working on a new advanced display type one that’s dubbed ‘Free-Form Display’.
The display allows for screens of different and unique sizes, screens that can be bent and be used in a number of devices. Nintendo is said to be the first company that will begin using these screens in 2016.
It is possible that these screens could be used in a new Nintendo handheld or home console but the feeling is that a screen such as this would be used in the upcoming quality of life products, the first of which is some sort of sleep sensor.
Sharp and Nintendo have a strong relationship with the company providing Nintendo with the screens for the Nintendo 3DS.
