With the 10th anniversary of the Dreamcast’s release at hand, Gamespot recently caught up with Ken Ballough, associate brand manager at Sega, to discuss the future of the iconic blue hedgehog. After years of terrible or below par Sonic games, it seems Sega is bringing the series back to the wonderful realm of 2D. "Old-school Sonic fans have long asked to see Sonic return to a more 2D style of gameplay," says Ballough. "Many liked the daytime stages in Unleashed, but wanted to see a game that plays purely similar to the early games of the Genesis."
A trailer for the project contains classic sounds and a blue blur which eventually reads "Speed returns, in an all new 2D adventure built from the ground up." Ballough also suggests we’ll see the game in HD graphics.
HD graphics? Does this mean the Wii will miss out on this much-anticipated title? Or will the title simply be non-exclusive to Nintendo consoles? Only time will tell.
