Sega is cleaning the shelves of all older and poor Sonic games. The move is in order to ‘increase the value of the brand’ and avoid confusing customers according the company. “Any Sonic game with an average Metacritic has been de-listed" says Sega’s SVP of EMEA Jurgen Postspeaking to MCV UK.
“We could make a lot of money on back-catalogue Sonic titles, but let’s keep the number of Sonic games available under control. Otherwise you can have cannibalisation. If there are ten Sonic games on the shelves, with people seeing Sonic Rush DS or Sonic Rush Adventure, this may not help our overall strategy.”
With both Sonic Riders on the DS and Wii and Sonic Free Riders hitting the Kinect this Christmas, there certainly would be an abundance of Sonic games on the shelves if it was not for this move.
The question is, are these games going to be any better than the ones out already? Sega is certainly confident. So well be too.
From Mario to Zelda, to Splatoon to Donkey Kong. Everything on Nintendo Music.
Definitively done with the Wii U now.
But it's not for everyone yet.
