Secret Bases are returning in Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby

An official blog post from Nintendo themselves has detailed Super-Secret Bases,  an “awesome new way to express your creativity and join up with friends” in the upcoming Ruby and Sapphire remakes for the 3DS. Secret bases were areas in the original Ruby and Sapphire games that could be found and decorated around the land of Hoenn.

In Secret Bases, players can customise their bases with decorations, specify what rules will be in place for Pokemon battles taking place there and even make them appear to be like their very own Gym, inviting players to challenge them.

Of course, being a 3DS game, both Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby will feature an array of communication features. Firstly, players can visit each others bases online and will be able to battle each of it’s members individually. Base Owners that the player likes can be scouted using the “Secret Pal” feature and be brought back to their own base. Pals that are collected can be battled continuously or may have a special ability to use in the main game.

To top it off, every base has a flag that can be taken from other players bases and returned to your own. The more flags you have, the higher your rank is and the better your skills are as obtained from your Secret Pals. Each flag will have a colour that denotes ranking too.

And of course, each Secret Base can be exported to a QR Code for easy sharing too.
