Scribblenauts 2 details begin to surface

The upcoming issue of Nintendo Power magazine will let slip the first information about 5th Cells improvements to the sequel to one of 2009s most popular DS games

The cover of this month’s Nintendo Power will be graced by some wonderful concept art for the upcoming Scribblenauts sequel. Details of the new game cover some pretty comprehensive changes to the Scribblenauts formula, as a list of over 10,000 adjectives will now play a big role in summoning the game’s many items and creatures. In addition to the new adjective system, we can expect a removal of the ‘par system, a deeper level editing system and a new hint system.

Furthermore, we can look forward to big improvements to one of the most detracting features of the first Scribblenauts game – the controls. Jeremiah Slaczka, the lead designer from the first game, has confirmed that the sequel will implement D-Pad controls, something fans of the original will greatly appreciate. In addition to moving Maxwell around with the D-Pad, the fidelity of the touch-screen controls will be improved as well as an improved camera system, hopefully providing a less finicky experience for players. If development studio 5th Cell can provide us with something more reliable and accessible, then Scribblenauts 2 may indeed move closer to the high potential of the game’s ‘Write Anything, Solve Everything’ mantra.

According to the magazine, we can expect a Q4 release of the game later this year.
