Satoru Iwata to become CEO of Nintendo of America
Nintendo has just announced that Satoru Iwata, in addition the role he has already will soon become the CEO of Nintendo of America.
The current CEO, Tatsumi Kimishima has been promoted to the managing director of Nintendo Japan (NCL). Kimishima has been the CEO of Nintendo of America since 2006, before that he was president of Pokemon USA 2001 and first joined Nintendo, in Japan in 2000. Nintendo says his new roles are being the “General Manager of Corporate Analysis and Administration, and general manager of the General Affairs Division.” These roles are currently held buy Yoshihiro Mori and Masaharu Matsumoto who are retiring.
Satoru Iwata will be assuming all of Kimishima’s current responsibilities, including being the CEO. Nintendo sas the move is to “support the company’s unified global strategy, allow streamlined decision making and enhance Nintendo’s organizational agility in the current competitive environment”.
Reggie Fils-Aime will continue in his role as president and Chief operating officer of Nintendo America, reporting directly to Iwata.
It’s a one Iwata future.
