Marriage is about love, and battle effectiveness
Nintendo has revealed that same-sex marriage will be an option in Fire Emblem Fates, while also confirming that the game will be released in two versions
Fire Emblem Fates will be released with two versions at US retail, named Conquest and Birthright, with each version featuring it’s own story scenario. A third scenario will be made available at a later date as downloadable content to owners of either version.
Marriage was an important mechanic to character progression in Fire Emblem Awakening, however only opposite-sex marriages were possible. In Fates, each game will feature a character open to a same-sex relationship. Conquest’s scenario will have a male character who can marry a male player character, while the Birthright scenario will feature a female character who can marry a female player character.
It has not been confirmed that the separate retail versions of the game will be in Australia and Europe as well, but with this being the case for both Japan and the US, it seems quite likely that we’ll be looking at two separate versions of the game as well.
