According to Hirokazu Hamamura, the president of Famitsu’s parent company Enterbrain, there could be a new iteration of the Nintendo DS announced at E3. Nintendo has allegedly responded to the rumour with their usual “”no comment’ but have not denied it either. Although the DS is still doing good numbers worldwide, sales have begun to slow down in recent months in Japan with some saying that the system has peaked. More inside Also if you go by previous system refreshes, the Gameboy Advance was released in 2001, followed by the GBA SP refresh in 2003, and finally the GBA Micro in 2005 (though the latter was not considered a commercial success). Since the Nintendo DS was released in 2004 in Japan with the DS Lite following in 2006, it could be time for a refresh to the DS brand.
