Its been all quiet on the Nintendo 3DS pricing front since Nintendo Japan priced the 3DS for their region, yet every other branch hasnt said squat. EB Games Australia has had a guesstitmate price up on their site since just after the E3, but other than that weve heard nothing about local pricing at all, until yesterday.
Yesterday we got a tip that the Nintendo 3DS had been indicated not only a retail price but also a cost price for the system with the retailer GAME. Our source says that while the Nintendo 3DS has been in there for a while, its had no price attached and things are only usually given cost prices when official information is distributed.
So whats the price? Well, its very recently appeared on the Game website and that price is $399. The reported cost price comes in at around $370 dollars. $399 Australian dollars equates to 32,583 Yen compared to the 25,000 Yen the 3DS goes for in Japan. Thats $92 Australian dollars more than the Japanese price. The Nintendo DSi XL is currently only $44AU more expensive than the Japanese DSi LL.
As we all know, directly converting figures from one currency to another isnt the best way to show the price difference.
99% of the time we take no notice of retailers pricing things, often theyre just a shot in the dark and this price could be no different. However, the listing of a cost price puts it a peg above absolute rubbish. For reference – the guess price EB games posted up was $349.
So readers, is $399 for you? Will you buy one regardless? If not, whats your cutoff.
See how much you did, or didn't play things.
