Report: The Wii U is no longer in production, final units roll out this week

According to a report by Eurogamer the Wii U will finish production this Friday. The final deadline for orders has passed and only a few more orders were received.

That’s it, no more – what’s left out in the wild all that will be sold from here on out.

With Wii U sales sitting at 13.36 million it now ranks below even the GameCube at 21 million, the Nintendo 64 on 32 million and the Wii reigning supreme on 101 million.

With the Switch on the way and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild the only remaining release from Nintendo forthcoming there’s really no point dragging this on any further.

Bit of a shame really. We’ll come back in a couple days and share some of our favourite Wii U memories and games but what about you. What’s your favourite Wii U moment?

Note: Eurogamer’s track record for rumours has been incredible as of late basically revealing the Switch months before the official reveal. This is why we’ve published this story.

    :'(

Poor Wii U. I had some fun times with that little black box. Shame it’s life was tragically cut short.

for me it has had the best games of any nintendo console so far. We still play 3D world all the time. Mario Maker is amazing. So many good platformers. Smash, Splatoon, MK8. Many many good eshoop games. I really liked the 2 screen concept, too bad they didn’t really use it after nintendoland.
I’m very glad that the off tv aspect is retained in the Switch. I use that a lot!
My son has grown up with Wii U as his first console (he is 5 and half now), he has had an absolute ball with the console! So sad to see it is already over…
