Reggie says the two biggest 3DS problems are fixed

A big Nintendo franchise and the eShop are the answers – both of which are now here

The Nintendo 3DS has had a stumbled launch out of the gate. It hasnt done too bad, but it has fallen short of the expectations even Nintendo had set for the console. However Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aime, believes the two problems that were causing slow sales of the console have been fixed. What two problems were these? The first was the lack of a big Nintendo franchise. Thats now been resolved (at least everywhere but in Australia) with the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.

Reggie says that "when we started talking to consumers who were aware or interested, but hadnt yet bought [the Nintendo 3DS], they told us two things: first, I need a big Nintendo franchise for our purchase. The second thing was I need the network to be up. I need the connected experiences to be there."

That second one, you guessed it, is about the Nintendo eShop, the web browser and even features like the lack of DSiWare transfer that were holding people back. Reggie says though even though they didnt have the eShop up for launch, the console wasnt launched early. "The system did not launch earlier than planned," says Fils-Aime. "We thought there would have been a tighter gap between launch and the first network update." The eShop was originally planned to be released before the end of May; it eventually launched in the first week of June, just before E3. We think though Nintendo should have had it out even earlier, perhaps even needed it then.
