Rayman comes to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS … as a trophy
Masahiro Sakurai has just announced that Rayman will be in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS… as an collectable trophy. That new character revealed is still due to hit later tonight.
This is the first western third party character to feature in the game series, even if it just a trophy. It appears that Sakurai himself or Nintendo sent a request to Ubisoft for the limbless hero to be included in the game and were expecting a Rayman Legends-esque character but instead got a brand new 3D model rendered especially for Smash Bros.
Since Super Smash Bros. Brawl we’ve been treated to Sonic the Hedgedog, Snake from Metal Gear Solid and now Megaman and Pac-Man in the new titles as playable fighters. Perhaps we’ll see a non-Japanese character revealed as playable tonight?
What do you think of Rayman’s inclusion into the new games?
Pic of the day. In order to make Rayman’s trophy, we asked Ubisoft to share their references. We were expecting to receive 2D drawing references for Rayman, but to our surprise, they sent us data of a brand new 3D model that they rendered for this game!! And that was how this trophy was created. It takes a lot of work creating each model, so it’s wonderful that the creators contributed their own efforts!!
