Rare talks about 3DS development and refuses to comment on Wii U

Can’t we all just get along?

Would you like to see Banjo-Kazooie on your 3DS in the near future? If your answer was “yes” then you’re going to have mixed feelings about the rest of this article. Rare has recently spoken out about potential 3DS development on the blog section of their website.

In the July edition of their questions and answers segment “Mini-Scribes”, Rare was nice enough to answer a few questions related to a touchy subject. For those of you who are still a bit lost, they were talking about Nintendo. Rare answering questions about, linked and related to Nintendo!

A fan quizzed Rare on 3DS development, asking them if they planned on making any games for Nintendo’s new handheld, and at the same time informing them a Banjo game would be “perfect” for the 3DS.

The response from a member of the Rare team was neither positive nor negative.

“No 3DS plans have been announced, and I’ve heard nothing along those lines, though of course that’s not an outright denial as there are bound to be all sorts of things going on at a high management level that most of us know nothing about.”

In a separate question, another admirer of Rare asked about the developer’s thoughts on the Wii U. Naturally Rare refused to comment.

“Wii U? Mini-Scribes is so not the place for official comment, but I’m sure we’re all watching the next console generation unfold with polite professional interest.”

So there you have it, a bit of news regarding Rare and Nintendo. If things work out as well as they did during the Game Boy Advance and DS generations (Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty’s Revenge, Viva Pinata: Pocket Paradise and Diddy Kong Racing DS), with any luck we just might see some more classics, or even some of Rare’s future projects on the 3DS.

As for the Wii U, it would be wise to erase anything regarding it and Rare from your mind now. No seriously, the chance of a Rare Wii U project happening would be like Mario and Sonic becoming best friends and then going on to star in some sort of Olympics sports title together. Oh wait…

In other news I just remembered I actually own Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty’s Revenge. Check out the full July edition of Mini-Scribes here.

I’ve been writing about video games since 2006 and playing them since I was a kid. I started out with a copy of Mario & Yoshi on the Game Boy and before I knew it was in debt to Tom Nook. These days I spend much of my time trawling the eShop for the latest downloadable hit.
