R18+ rating saga set to drag on thanks to NSW Attorney-General

NSW Attorney-General Greg Smith says “more work needs to be done”

The R18+ rating issue could have been done and dusted this weekend, but yet again the issue receives another setback. GameSpot is reporting that NSW Attorney-General Greg Smith has said that he won’t be "going down a definitive route" with R18+ at this week’s SCAG meeting. He says he will wait to see the findings of an ALRC (Australian Law Reform Commission) report into the classification system, and that’s not until next year. A spokesperson of Smith’s said "more work needs to be done on this issue".

This new information clearly contradicts information obtained by Kotaku AU earlier in the year, saying he was waiting until this Friday’s meeting to make his mind up. "A decision regarding the introduction of an R18+ classification is expected to be made by Censorship Ministers at their meeting in July 2011." We all expected wrongly, it seems.

Yet again we wait – we’ll see what happens on Friday, but it’s not looking good.
