Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Edition coming to 3DS in April (Update: Coming west too!)
The popular Japanese puzzler game, Puzzle & Dragons is getting a Super Mario Bros. edition.
The game is part RPG, part strategy but mostly plays very similar to something like Candy Crush or any other number of puzzles games. The mobile phone versions of the game are extremely popular and profitable in Japan. No doubt this Mario version which retails for 4000yen ($40) won’t have any wallet draining micro-transactions.
The first trailers shows traditional Puzzle & Dragons gameplay infused with Mario over-world and theme. The game will be release at retail in Japan on April 29th.
Chalk this one up for localization we bet.
Update: The official North America Twitter account for Puzzles & Dragons has confirmed that the game will be heading out of Japan with more details to come. Guess the localisation of Puzzles & Dragons Z is dead…
Details are forthcoming, but an overseas release of Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Edition via Nintendo has been announced.

Hmmm… Not sure how I feel about this crossover. I guess like Itadaki Street slapping a Nintendo theme on it makes it a bit safer to release it in the west.
I’d prefer they localise P&D Z to be honest. I’ve been playing both the US and Japanese versions simultaneously on my iPhone for just shy of 700 days. The 3DS version is much more like Pokemon along with the traditional P&D puzzle elements.
RPG Mario games aren’t really my thing sadly.
