Preliminary sales figures for the PlayStation 3 are in and its failed to make an impact as the low key and mild launches looked to have suggested. According to Sony they have sold over 20,000 PS3 consoles in just 3 days, the usual launch reporting window for Australia.

The PS3 is now the only console in recent history not to break the previous consoles record with the PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, DS, PSP and Xbox 360 and Wii all breaking the record set by the console before it. That being said, the Playstation 3 costs $1000 which is probably why it didn’t sell as well as its counterparts. However, the Wii didn’t have consoles sitting on the shelf at midnight did it? A more exact figure from GFK is due soon.
