This is a prime example of why first month sales are no longer a good gauge to see if gaming is successful or not. Nintendo of America in March ran an advertising campaign on TV featuring actress Lisa Kudrow promoting Professor Layton and the Curious Village. So why would Nintendo advertise a year old game? Surely all the people were going to buy it, but did they?
Well, seems that’s not the case as the games sales surpassed the first month’s sales from back in February 2008. The game didn’t drop in price, nor did the game get a sequel (but it should) but the clout of advertising with celebrities can even affect games a year on.
Not everyone who could buy a game will buy it in the first month and here is the proof.
