Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands announced
Ubisoft has not said anything further than a consoles and handhelds release for this game set in The Sands of Times storyline
Ubisoft have revealed a new game in the series for a May 2010, dubbed The Forgotten Sands, with currently the only specifics on platform being ’consoles and handhelds.’ An Ubisoft rep later explained to the UK’s Official Nintendo Magazine that they "haven’t confirmed the platforms yet."
So, what is the game about, you ask? Well, it’s going to be based around the storyline of The Sands of Time, and will apparently contain many of the best parts of the original trilogy along with "new gameplay innovations." This is somewhat worrying, as even though The Sands of Time was a great game, the project seems like it may be to tie in with the upcoming film based on the first game in the trilogy.
Given that the Gamecube received each game in the Price of Persia trilogy from that generation—The Sands of Time, Warrior Within, and The Two Thrones—it was quite unfortunate to see Nintendo’s current console miss out on last year’s reboot of the series, simply titled Prince of Persia. In fact, the only game in the franchise the Wii has received is Rival Swords, a port of The Two Thrones with basic motion controls.
Ubisoft haven’t given us any further information yet, but they have announced that the first trailer for the game will be shown at Spike TV’s Video Game Awards 2009 on December 12. For now you can check out the title’s official site, which will hopefully be updated with more information in the near future.
