PowerA Joy-Con Charging Dock Review for Nintendo Switch

The best way to charge four Joy-Con controllers at once.

There’s a lot of stuff you need to charge with the Nintendo Switch. The console itself, the Joy-Con controllers and perhaps less so the Pro Controller. Out of the box, it’s pretty easy to keep it all charged if you’re playing by yourself but, what happens when something like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe comes out and the Joy-Con controllers start to multiply.

This is where the PowerA Joy-Con Charging Dock is going to shine. Most Switch accessories we’ve reviewed so far have been for taking it out-and-about or changing the way you play the Switch, this one is for the home player. The Charge Dock seats and charges up to 4 Joy-Con controllers at a time, like the Switch itself all you do is slide the controllers onto the stalk and they’re charging. It’s missing the ‘click’ that Switch unit itself gives and they don’t lock in, but you’re not going to moving it much so this really isn’t a problem. The dock is weighted as well so pulling out the controllers doesn’t lift up the dock and it has an overall ‘Nintendo’ feel as well.

The top of the center stalk has icons of which way the controllers have to sit, there’s also a LED on the top to tell when it’s charging and has been charged. The dock itself plugs into USB so you can have it plugged into your Switch dock or the TV or anywhere really. We’ve put ours in the back of the dock so the cable is nice and tucked away. You can roll up the cable inside the base of the charging dock too so there’s some flexibility there.

The PowerA Joy-Con Charging Dock isn’t going to be needed by everyone, if you have just the one Switch in the house the best way to charge your controllers is still on the console. But later on you’re going have more sets of Joy-Cons or have people over with them and this is where it’s going to come in handy and it’s not super expensive which is nice.

The PowerA Joy-Con Charging Dock is out now, The Gamesmen have it in stock and it is also available from JB Hi-Fi and Target.
