Pokkén Tournament DX gets new Pokémon fighters in upcoming DLC
I know, I know, it’s not the Pokémon RPG game, but this is still pretty exciting.
Nintendo announced during their Mini Direct today that Pokkén Tournament DX will be getting new DLC, and with new DLC comes new Pokémon fighters. The DLC will come in two waves:
Wave 1 will feature 6th generation Pokémon Aegislash as a playable fighter, with Mega Rayquaza and Mimikyu as support Pokémon. It is scheduled to launch on the 31st of January.
Wave 2 will feature everyone’s favourite water starter Blastoise as a playable fighter, with Mew and Celebi as support Pokémon. It is scheduled to launch on the 23rd of March.
Players will not be able to purchase these packs individually, instead coming as a package deal for $22.50AUD, which is available to purchase now. For those who haven’t jumped on board the Pokkén train yet, there is also a bundle available for $112.45, which includes both the base game and the DLC.
You can view the trailer for the DLC below.

Stupid choice of Pokémon coupled with an abominably high price for such little content. Why the hell isn’t Mimikyu one of the new fighters instead?!
Aegislash is a fun choice, I guess, but as long as they’re adding another silly Chandelure-like Pokémon, I would have preferred something like Vanilluxe instead.
It still seems ridiculous to me that a Pokémon *fighting* game is missing the Tyrogue family, Throh/Sawk, Hariyama, Medicham etc. A lot of the included Pokémon that were chosen don’t even appear to be capable of offensive combat. Just look at Darkrai and Chandelure. And now we have another fatso in the form of Blastoise, who appears to be as mobile as Snorlax. And couldn’t Aegislash just win by default by stabbing/decapitating everybody?
Blastoise is far more popular than most other choices. People will buy for Blastoise, unlikely for most of those standard fighting types you mentioned.
But yeah it’s too expensive.
