This news has been floating out there for a while and now it’s been more or less confirmed by Nintendo themselves.
The upcoming Pokemon X & Y will not feature a 3D effect outside of battles. The game has been demoed around the world at events and this was made apparent quickly. When you are in the games ‘overworld’ there is no 3D effect, the light on the console turns off and reverts to 2D.
Confirming this news further is the first TV advert for the game. The small disclaimer text at the bottom of the screen differs from usual 3DS games, it states that the game is a ‘2D game with some 3D game play’.
So it’s not yet clear why the game is considered a 2D game and features only 3D for some parts of the game. Perhaps it is a performance thing, perhaps a stylistic choice by Game Freak. We may never know.
So what do you think? Is the omission of 3D outside of battles a bad thing for you? Let us know in the comments.
