Update: Pokemon X and Y now on sale in Adelaide – Two stores only (Not anymore)

There’s an interesting development happening in Adelaide’s Rundle Mall this afternoon. Earlier today specialist store Shin Tokyo began selling imported copies of Pokemon X and Y before the official worldwide release date which is tomorrow.

Because these games are imported stock from the UK, they’re not beholden to anyone to honour the worldwide release date. These imports, just like any other imported title do not constitute a street date break.

Now next door to Shin Tokyo is a EB Games store, they have confirmed to us on the phone that they are selling Pokemon X and Y. We asked if we could walk in now and pick one up without a preorder and we were told we could. Additionally, EB Games has said on their official Twitter account that they have received special permission from Nintendo to sell the game early because of the local competition.

This bizarre situation is likely only ever to happen again if Nintendo decide to hold another worldwide release date for anything.

So for now, no Pokemon X and Y hasn’t broken street date. You can buy the game only because of importers and only in Rundle Mall Adelaide.

Plot twist! We contacted Nintendo Australia to figure out what was going on and get some sense – officially. Nintendo Australia say the game has been given no confirmation to go on sale early.

[quote]There has been no confirmation from Nintendo Australia with regards to advance sales of this title.
Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will launch tomorrow, October 12.

Well then.
