Pokemon Sun and Moon support for Pokemon Bank now coming in 2017
The Pokemon Company has today announced a delay for adding Pokemon Sun, Moon and Virtual Console support to Pokemon Bank.
The update was originally due later this year but will now arrive in January 2017. The original release date was announced all the way back in February.
This now means that you won’t be able to transfer your Pokemon from the Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow or any other Pokemon game to Pokemon Sun and Moon some time after release.
In January 2017, the Nintendo 3DS downloadable software Pokémon Bank is expected to receive an update for compatibility with Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. Pokémon Bank is an application that enables you to put Pokémon you’ve collected in your games into Internet-based storage boxes. Until now this service has been available for Pokémon Omega Ruby, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Pokémon X, and Pokémon Y. Starting in early 2017, it will support Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon as well.
With this update, the Pokémon that adventured with you in Pokémon Omega Ruby, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Pokémon X, and Pokémon Y will be able to join you in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon!
On one hand it’ll suck you can’t get your Pokemon across to help your team out, but on the other you’ll get to see more of the new Alolan Pokemon this way.
Thinking about this, the Pokémon bank isn’t the only way to transfer Pokémon between versions, it’s just the most convenient way to mass transfer Pokémon between versions.
I imagine you can still trade from ORAS or XY if you have access to another 3DS and one of the former games..
