Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Eevee! Out November for Switch, Set in Kanto

The Pokémon Company has today announced the much-rumored Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go Eevee! They’re real and coming to the Switch on November 16th.

The new games are set in Kanto, are based on Pokémon Yellow with a similar story – but with some huge differences as well. The game will have motion controls for catching Pokémon, it looks like wild battles are out as well because of this, though trainer battles are still around, and seem to be similar to previous main games.

The game features a clean design, but doesn’t appear to be an entirely new engine. The game can be played entirely on one Joy-Con, that then frees up the second one for some co-op modes for battling.

Update: It has been confirmed that Pokémon will be limited to the original 151, with some Alolan variants available too, though full details are yet to be confirmed. There are no wild Pokémon battles in the game, instead catching Pokémon will be just like in Pokémon GO, with wild Pokémon appearing and the player (that’s you!) lobbing Poké Balls at them to try and catch them.

Local multiplayer has been confirmed, as shown in the trailer, but there are conflicting reports on whether or not the game will feature online multiplayer; we’ll wait for official confirmation from Nintendo or The Pokémon Company to clear things up. Due to the way accounts work on the Switch, players will be able to play alongside each other on the same Switch, presumably using characters from separate save files, meaning one household won’t necessarily require more than one game.

The Pokémon company has also revealed that the mystery gift featured at the end of a trailer is a Pokémon that has never been seen before.

Pokémon Let’s Go also features integration with Pokémon Go, you’ll be able to send your Generation 1 Pokémon from Go to Let’s Go through the Pokémon Park. There’s also a new accessory, the PokeBall Plus which you can take your buddy Pokemon from Let’s Go with you on the road. You can also play the game entirely through this controller as it’s also a controller. The PokéBall Plus also links up with Pokémon Go (and it looks like it will work the same as a Pokémon Go Plus currently does).

The games are set for a worldwide release on November 16th.
