The language barrier usually works against us here in the west. But this time a Japanese language issue caused Phoenix Wright to be scrapped from Capcom’s brawler.

Yes, scrapped. And for nothing less than his famous catchphrase, ’Objection!’. You see, in Japanese the word ’objection’ is made up of fewer characters, and their best idea for an attack was broken by this.

Ryota Niitsuma, the producer of Tatsunoko VS Capcom told NGamer magazine that "R & D actually really wanted to include these characters, especially Phoenix Wright and Franziska von Karma because shes got a whip which would be easy to implement. But because Phoenix Wright only has one move, Objection, we struggled. We designed a move for him: when he says objection, the actual writing attacks the opponent. However, objection in Japanese is igiari – its four characters, where as objection becomes ten. When we localise, the balance of the game gets destroyed because the move becomes bigger. Thered be no way of avoiding it! We had to remove him for these reasons. In the future, it is one of aims to get him in."

Unfortunate, many fans will be dissapointed by this move. Perhaps Phoenix will make his 3D return at a later stage instead.
