Want the Ocarina of Time soundtrack on vinyl? Here’s where to get it

Due for release in Q2 2017, Koji Kondo’s masterful soundtrack for Ocarina of Time is set to be recorded by an orchestra and pressed onto vinyl as an official 2LP collector’s item, titled Hero of Time.

Born out of a collaboration between iam8bit and Materia Collective, the album will be recorded in January 2017 by the 64-piece Slovak National Symphony Orchestra and conducted by composer Eric Buchholz. Buchholz will be well-known to hardcore Zelda fans due to his involvement with The Legend of Zelda 25^th Anniversary Symphony concert tour, in addition to working on the CD included with copies of Skyward Sword.

We all have Ryan Brinkerhoff to thank for the beautiful album sleeve artwork, which genuinely captures the light and dark sides of Ocarina of Time. This is all capped off by a gold foil-stamped triforce on the rear, because we’re all suckers for pretty-looking shiny things.

Arguably the best feature of the upcoming album is the inclusion of the digital soundtrack, to be delivered in Q1 2017. This is fantastic for those who don’t own a record player and want to listen to the music while owning a stunning collector’s item. For the vinyl-loving, record player-owning gamers among us, you also get to experience the orchestrated sounds of Zelda with the rich, warm crackle only the old-school vinyl provides.

A synthesised mock-up of what the recording will sound like is available to preview now. It already sounds incredible in its current form. Just imagine what the orchestrated recording will sound like. Even Ganondorf, the Prince of Darkness himself, would be brought to tears.
