NPD: Wii on top, but it and everything else down

Nintendo still have reason to celebrate but less so, and everyone else. Well theyre even more worse off

Nintendo is recession proof? Doesn’t look like it any more with sales of the Wii and DS, while still doing relativity well and above the competition are down and software looks even worse.

For the month of July video game sale in North America dropped for the firth straight month with the Xbox 360 the only console showing profit compared to the same time last year. Fear not, fellow Nintendo fan, as the Wii is still on top, but it’s lead is getting eaten into with 252,200 Wiis sold versus 202,900 Xboxes and 121,800 PS3s.

Wii Sports Resort was the top selling game for the month with 508,000 units sold, echoing what Nintendo was bragging about last week. A big loss this year so far is the music games, with the games selling $390US million less then last year. However Guitar Hero 5 and The Beatles Rock Band haven’t hit yet.
