Nobodys Russian out for Nintendo consoles in Russia
Think we get ripped off with our expensive Wii prices? Spare a thought for the Russians
Things are going well for Nintendo around the world, well, most of the world. We received in our inbox today a tale of woe from one of our many Russian readers. Well alright, hes probably the only one but he still has a terrible plight! You see, Wii consoles sell for more than 15000 rubles or about AU$551/US$500, and DSi consoles go for about 11000 rubles or around AU$404/US$370.
To make matters worse, when they do buy a grossly inflated DSi, there is no Nintendo DSi Shop, nor are any of the games on the system localised in Russian. That goes for Wii games as well.
Alexey and friends are hoping to get the attention of Nintendo Europe; currently all Nintendo consoles and games sold in Russia go through a third-party company. We in Australia are used to being a small market and truly we dont know how big or lucrative the Russian market is, but if Nintendo is aiming to get people of all ages playing their consoles, the big price and language barriers are enough to put them off, says Alexey. Russia has seven times the population of Australia, so Nintendo Europe, whats the haps?
