No Wii price cut for Australians
Nintendo Australia will not be passing on the savings, instead creating new bundles for Christmas
That announcement for a Wii Price drop in Australia? Not happening as Nintendo Australia will not be passing on the savings to Australians and instead will bundle the console.
Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, a spokeperson for Nintendo Australia said "a range of software bundles" would coming for Christmas, most likely a similar bundle to the UK, but we think Nintendo will use all that Mario advertising goodwill and put out a New Super Mario Bros. Wii bundle – but that’s just a prediction.
Nintendo might have good reason not to drop the price of the Wii price, because as of last month the Wii was sitting pretty on 1,380,000 units sold, compared to the 700,000 Xbox 360 consoles in the country and the 540,000 PS3s sold. That PS3 figure doesn’t include the 40,000 Slims sold in the last month.
So the gap has closed a little on the Wii, but it’s still well in front both the PS3 and Xbox 360 – do Nintendo need to pass on this price cut or is value adding the way to go for Australia? Are we getting fleeced? Let us know in the comments!
