Ah, remember the good ol days of Super Mario 64 when you discovered a new level after jumping into every painting, wall, hole (and clock face) you could find? Well the hours of free-spirited exploration in Mario 64, Mario Sunshine and Mario Galaxy wont be revived in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Instead, theyll be replaced by nothin at all, nothin at all, NOTHIN AT ALL!
"You can think of it in terms of something similar to Super Mario World or New Super Mario Bros. Wii, where you will have a rather convenient map to navigate," says Shigeru Miyamoto, the games designer. "We want players to focus on the joy of the action instead of getting to each game course. We wanted to make it as accessible as possible and as easy as possible for the players." Who says you cant have joyful action outside the courses? Like trying to catch MIPS the rabbit for a star in Mario 64?
"Also because were going to incorporate a number of different stars and conquering all the stars is going to be one of the most challenging missions for the player, we want them to understand as easy as possible where they should go next and which places they should go back to in order to get access to the remaining stars." Well those stars had better be difficult to get because I for one dont like to be spoon-fed where to go or what to do next.
What do you think about this decision? Do you enjoy taking a break from the hostile courses by wondering around the big, peaceful hub worlds, or do you prefer the more linear, manageable 2D maps?

Because Gate Rune and Dunan Unification War is too long to fit in a title.
Predictions time once again.
