We felt a bit sorry for Winning Eleven at Nintendo World 2011, probably because it had the shortest lines out of every game on show. Otherwise known as Pro Evolution Soccer here, Winning Eleven was one of the first 3DS games we played out of the batch so it was our first experience of the 3DS in action.
The demo itself was quite bland, with the presentation seemingly dumbed down with only soccer being shown on the screen. There’s no fancy score boards or “atmosphere” of the game, just a few nice entrances for the team members.
Winning Eleven is the first sports game the public has been able to sample on the Nintendo 3DS, and just like on TV, the 3D effects add a great level of helpful depth to assist you in processing what you’re seeing. Players actually appear up on the field and it’s a lot easier to judge where the best place to pass the ball would be.
Apart from the 3D aspect of the graphics, the game doesn’t really look all that good, although the stadium and player models are still quite impressive. From a soccer point of view, the game is pretty much the classic soccer game, and there is nothing too unconventional for the genre introduced here.
Soccer fans will no doubt no this one, but at this point if the game doesn’t have anything new or interesting that isn’t already available in other soccer games, besides the 3D effects, of course.
