There will be a total of eight games that will hit shelves alongside the hot new handheld when it launches in Japan late next month

There’s no Mario among the mix, but expect Nintendo’s Nintendogs & Cats to be a hot seller along with a strong showing from third-party developers. There’s a pretty good range of game types, with the fighting, racing, sports, puzzle and casual genres pretty well-catered for.

The full list of launch titles come in at a sticker price of between ¥4,800 and ¥6,090 (that’s about $58 to $74 on current exchange rates).

  • Nintendogs & Cats (three editions): ¥4,800
  • Winning Eleven Soccer 3D: ¥5,800
  • Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition: ¥4,800
  • Samurai Warriors: Chronicle: ¥6,090
  • Puzzle Bobble 3D: ¥4,980
  • Ridge Racer 3D: ¥6,090
  • Battle of the Giants: Dinosaurs 3D: ¥5,040
  • Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle: ¥5,980

The new Layton game is sure to have fans of the Professor plenty excited, but given the amount of time it takes to translate and adapt the puzzle adventure games for Western versions, and the fact that we still haven’t received Professor Layton and the Specter’s Flute for the DS in English territories yet, I wouldn’t expect the game to appear on the Australian launch title list.

The 3DS will launch in Japan on February 26 for ¥25,000, and in other territories shortly after.
