The original DS was not blessed with many fighters, but now weve seen the 3DS is jiggling out the gate with at least two (yes, we just made a jiggle joke in a Dead Or Alive article. Dead or Alive Dimensions is the first time a Nintendo platform has been home to the franchise and naturally the first time the series has gone full 3D. Dead or Alive is a fighting franchise known for its slick speed and graphics, and its usually pushed every console its been on. Thankfully, with this 3DS iteration, its not different.

The graphics in 3D are really slick and, unlike Street Fighter, the camera pans around the levels as you fight over multiple stages. Turning the 3D effects off with the depth slider seems to make the game run even better, although the environments look amazing in 3D and youll definitely want to experience it like that first and foremost. The character models, both male and female, have had their trademark porcelain doll look toned down just a tad to add a little bit of natural realism to their look.

Dead or Alive: Dimensions even utilises the gyroscopic sensor in an "interesting" way. The rumours are true – shaking your 3Ds will make the characters breasts jiggle. A bit childish, but its still something to chuckle at.

As for the actual gameplay itself, the controls work well with either the circle pad or the d-pad. The d-pad was a bit of a worry when they first revealed the 3DS, but unless you have gigantic hands, there shouldnt be any problems with it. The demo we played had a "dial-a-combo" menu on the bottom screen, and while were not sure if this will be in the final version, it was still lacking common sense to scroll through these combos during intense fights.

In the demo we played, we got to play through two specific modes. Story mode was basically fights sandwiched in between some beautifully rendered in-game cutscenes while the other was the usual arcade mode. The load times between fights were virtually non-existent too, which is a plus.

Its hard to say much more about this one – its Dead or Alive on a portable console, and, well, it works. Is it better than Super Street Fighter IV? Thats debatable and will split fans of either series for sure. Regardless of your fandom, however, its worth checking out Dead or Alive: Dimensions if you consider yourself a fan of fighters.
