Nintendo has enabled another system update for the Wii, which you will be prompted to download next time you visit the shopping channel. The new update adds a new look to Wii Shopping Channel TV icon and animation and the gifting facility to send friends games and software within the Shopping Channel. The other update available is for the Photo Channel available in the Wii Ware/Wii software section of the shopping channel. This update channel removes MP3 support from the channel and replaces it with ACC, plus it allows you to set a photo for the TV icon on the main Wii Menu.

Wii Update: New Gift Feature, Photo Channel Update and Pokmon Snap

Available now, Wii Shop Channel has a new gift feature which allows you to send a Virtual Console game or Wii software to a friend as a present.

Sending gifts works in the same way as making a purchase from the Wii Shop Channel. Simply choose the software, select gift, and choose a friend from your Wii Friends Roster. You can even personalise the gift by attaching your own Mii and a message.

You can find out more about the gift feature in the Shopping Guide on the Wii Shop Channel page.

Also available now on Virtual Console is Pokmon Snap. In Pokmon Snap, you can capture Pokmon not with a Pok Ball but with a camera!

Originally a hit on Nintendo 64, the Virtual Console version of Pokmon Snap has been enhanced to work with the Wii Message Board – so now you can share your favourite Pokmon pictures with friends.

A new version of the Photo Channel is also available. This version is free to download simply by visiting the Wii Software section.

This Photo Channel update includes:

● Option to customise the Photo Channel icon on the Wii Menu with any photograph you like, transferred from an SD card
● New file format for background music played from an SD card. The previous format of MP3 has been replaced with AAC, which benefits from higher sound quality in the same file size
● Shuffle play of background music during a slide show
