Ahead of the imminent launch of the new jumbo sized DSi in Europe, Nintendos David Yarnton has claimed that the handheld has a home on your coffee table and isnt just for Nanna

Yarnton, Nintendo’s General Manager in the UK, spoke to the Times online tech blog about what audiences they are targeting with the latest version of the DS. “What’s surprised us is that the XL has such a broad appeal. Our feedback is that there is a wide cross-section of people who say, “I have to have that”. Gamers have got into it, playing games like Zelda and Mario Kart on a bigger screen. Families find it slightly easier to share. Older people find it helps too.”

He admitted that a larger size may limit the portability of the handheld, but suggested that it was an ideal device to have lying around the house, emphasising the improved sound and the benefits of having a larger screen. “Obviously, it’s not something you can chuck in your pocket,” Yarnton stressed. “Sure, people use the DS when they are travelling. But there’s plenty of people that play at home, and this is an opportunity to give them an enhanced gaming experience.”

The DSi XL drops like a pork pie tomorrow in the UK, with the Aussie release just around the corner hitting stores on the 15th this month.
