Nintendo takes on Metroid Prime: Federation Force criticism Directly

Metroid Prime: Federation Force was not received well when it was shown off at last year’s E3 – in fact most people hated it. Nintendo know this and during today’s Nintendo Direct took the chance to explain the game some more and hopefully calm the nerves of fans.

New details about the game were revealed including the story of its development. It’s been in development since 2009 in one or another and originally started out on the Nintendo DSi. However when the New 3DS was revealed they finally thought about releasing the game because of the C-Stick and the added power. It is not a New 3DS exclusive however.

The game is also described as having a class based system, you have a different role in the game depending on your colour. You can be a healer, or just a straight out soldier. It will of course have full online support.

The game is out in our ‘winter’ which should mean around June or July. For now here’s an updated trailer.

The bland, generic FPS that nobody wanted. Worse is that they’re besmirching the Metroid brand in the process. =/

I want this. Metroid Prime and Hunters were great extensions of the Metroid formula and universe. Taking the format of that series and sidestepping into a squad-based coop game should be an exciting development. Perhaps we should be reserving judgment until there is something worth judging.

Are they though? I personally like it more as a multiplayer game. It’s at least better than playing with 3 other Samus Arans as I have heard before E3 2015.

I take it your use of the word ‘directly’ is a play on the fact that this came from a Nintendo Direct, rather than that any criticism was actually addressed properly. Some extra information was given, sure, but no justification whatsoever for why this game needs to be set in the Metroid universe, and why Samus Aran isn’t a part of it.
