During the Splatoon 2 Direct last night we finally got a look at the Nintendo Switch Online application for smartphones. The application will launch on the same day as Splatoon 2, July 21st.

The application will be host to ‘SplatNet 2’, the Splatoon 2 component of the app, which looks to be completely themed and offer some great ways to keep in touch with Inkopolis. SplatNet 2 displays stage schedules, gear for sale, and a whole range of statistics. You’ll be able to keep track of how much ink you’ve used over the entire time you’ve played as well and compare them to famous landmarks.

More importantly, the Nintendo Switch Online app allows you to join friends in Private Battles, League Battles, Salmon Run and Splatfest Battles, as well as communicate with those players using voice chat.

The Direct and the accompanying press release after didn’t fully explain still how that will work either yet, hopefully soon Nintendo?
