Nintendo Switch Online App Available to Download on Android and iOS

In a somewhat shocking turn of events, the Nintendo Switch Online app is now available to download on both Android and iOS (no Windows Phone though, sorry). We expected the app to be available on Friday with the launch of Splatoon 2, but it’s good to know that you can download it and log in right now instead. The one downside is that servers aren’t currently live, so after logging in all you’ll see is a server maintenance message. But hey, it’s something, right?
You can follow the links below to download the app:
Android: Play Store
iOS: App Store

I grey imported my copy so it will be another week or two before I get my copy, will Mario Kart 8 Deluxe be playable online this weekend?
Looks like it’s at least look going you on now. Game specific services for Splatoon 2 is there: order gear from SplatNet etc.
App seems pretty disappointing so far. I can’t test the quality of voice comms bit yet (aside from joining an empty Splatoon 2 room that I create myself), but the level of integration with the Switch seems border-line non-existent (aside from being forced to create the room from Splatoon 2).
Why can’t I create arbitrary rooms for any game I’m playing? Does this mean every game (including 3rd parties) will need to be designed to be able to set setup a room in order to be able to voice chat with people?
If they’d at least you join a room for the game you’re in then maybe there would be some use here; but as it is I can’t see much value in it over just using Discord.
The game specific services are literally just embedded web pages; so nothing that exciting there yet either.
It’s live now. With some introductory informayion
