Nintendo shows off new co-operative River Survival mode in Super Mario Party

Work together, not against.

Nintendo has demonstrated a new co-operative mode for Super Mario Party at Gamescom. It’s called River Survival and sees everyone in a boat, paddling their way down a river working together to get to the end before time runs out. Along the way, you’ll have to pop balloons to play mini-games to get more time (or potentially lose it).

Because teamwork is the theme, you’ll get extra points for high-fiving at the start of the game. Mini-games that were shown include one with the four players navigating around some Pihranna Plants in a cave, a relay race with fireworks and more. The team of four will have to finish these games and avoid obstacles to get to the goal.

It’s different to see everyone working together in a Mario Party title for once! You can check out the demonstration in the video below.

Super Mario Party is out on Friday, October 5th
