Nintendo shifts over 1.5 million consoles and handhelds in Thanksgiving Week

US shoppers were certainly after some new handhelds, with sales of the DS and DSi reaching a record-breaking over 1 million in seven days alone

While it is often easy to forget that it is even that time of the year here, Thanksgiving is a big deal in the US, even for the games industry, with Nintendo reporting some huge sales from November 22nd through to the 28th. They havent released any software numbers, but consoles and handhelds amassed above 1.5 million sales.

"Holiday shoppers are finding value in our products prices," says Cammie Dunaway from Nintendo of America, "and through a game-play experience that is unique to Nintendo."

Most special about this would be the amount of DS and DSi systems bought during the week (over one million), which have now broken the handheld sales record which the Gameboy Advance had held since the same time in 2002. Also not too shabby is the Wiis 550,000 sales, no doubt a combination of both the US$50 pricecut and the crazy Black Friday shopping sprees.
