Nintendo set to double Switch production
According to a report in the Wall Street Journal Nintendo is doubling down on Switch production.
The report says Nintendo now plans to make twice as many Switch consoles in the next financial year. The original plan was to manufacture 8 million consoles, now that’s said to be 16 million. The Switch has broken the record for best Nintendo launch of a console in America Europe, and here in Australia and New Zealand, they’re off to a good start.
This new 16 million figure wouldn’t include the 2 million they plan to sell this financial year which finishes at the end of March. If Nintendo ended up selling that many units, it would be it above the Wii. It’s an extremely positive forecast. Can they do it? Let us know what you think in the comments.

I think the initial demand has been inflated by Zelda. The numbers will drop off soon until Super Mario Odyssey comes out. Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart will have an impact, but nothing like Zelda.
I think its a great expectation, but the problem is can they sustain the market on their own, right now, there is not a lot of release dates for titles and until we get those, its hard to judge how well it will do.
Don’t misunderstand me of course, the content will keep coming, but I think Disgaea 5 in May is the last currently dated title, which means after then, its all up in the air and people won’t invest in a new platform, without seeing a proper release plan for the content
