Nintendo says it’s not stopping production of the Wii U

When Nikkei reports anything on Nintendo, they deny it – until they don’t… sort of.

This morning’s report from Nikkei of Nintendo winding down production on the Wii U by the end of the year has provoked a response from the company who simply have said;

“This isn’t an announcement from our company. From the next quarter and thereafter as well, production [of the Wii U] is scheduled to continue.”

Like the sun rises, Nintendo always (try) and squash every Nikkei rumour. Things like Nintendo working on smartphones, the Nintendo DSi and even the New 3DS were Nikkei rumours at one point. Nintendo even denied the 3DS XL existed 9 days before it was announced after a Nikkei rumour.

The Nikkei sources aren’t always right, but there’s always some truth in what they’re saying. Unless they’re completely wrong.

    Yeah, I also remember Nikkei’s NX Android OS rumour.

    You have to love the releases to deny a claim that don’t even address what was being claimed. The original report was Nintendo would wind down production at the end of the year and Nintendo has come back saying they’ll be continuing production for the next quarter and onwards.

    The fact Nintendo said “quarter” and not year doesn’t exactly shout confidence in their part. They could continue production for two quarters and the rumour could still prove to be true…
