Nintendo reveals possible price range for the Switch online service
Nintendo’s still yet unnamed online service for the Nintendo Switch now has a possible price range.
With just under a month to go now until launch, Nintendo has told the Nikkei that they plan to charge 2-3,000 Yen ($23AUD – $34AUD) per year for the service. Keep in mind that that’s just a converted price and Nintendo will undoubtedly change the pricing in each region to suit the market.
This is probably a lot less than people were expecting and Nintendo may be just trying to gauge public reaction by giving a ballpark figure. For comparison, Xbox Live Gold and the PlayStation Plus services cost between $69.95 and $89.95 depending on where you buy the subscription. To see Nintendo came well under that, is a great sign.
The online service for the Switch will allow you to play games online, use the smartphone app for online lobby and voice chat services, offer exclusive deals and get a free NES or SNES game per month to play.
1) Just in: Nintendo president Kimishima tells the Nikkei Switch's online service will be priced at 2-3,000 yen ($17.50 – $26.50) *YEARLY*.

2) Kimishima says the yearly fees make it easier for Nintendo to support online features such as multiplayer or downloads of classic games.

Judging by the Switch mark-up, I can’t see the subscription service being any less than AU$50.
Yeah but no free monthly games I bet.
Even better, you only get to rent them! After the month is up they’re gone!
But they are adding online features to classic NES and SNES games. A month where everyone is online at the same time playing Mario Kart or Super Tennis could be really cool.
