The upcoming Super Smash Bros. Invitational is big news, it’s a clear sign from Nintendo that it finally gets what the fans want.

There’s also something else Smash Bros. fans want and that’s GameCube controller support for the upcoming Wii U version of the game. Well now they can have it. At the end of a new trailer revealing just who will be playing at the invitational, the announcers and the rule, a new GameCube controller adapter for the Wii U was revealed as well. The adapter will use both USB ports on the front of the Wii U and allow up to four controllers to be connected.

It’s also possible there’s new GameCube controllers on the way as the video shows a special black GameCube controller with a Smash emblem on it.

Oh this also opens the door to GameCube Virtual Console games, right?

Be sure to watch the trailer all the way to the end.
