Nintendo has just dropped, completely out of the blue, a Mario Kart 8 themed Nintendo Direct. This latest Direct promises to reveal everything you want to know about Mario Kart 8 and were just waiting for Nintendo to drop the info.

The Direct is absolutely filled with new information on the game, each region’s Direct differs slightly but the big news is the same. Two of the biggest announcements were the reveal and full details on Mario Kart 8’s online features and Mario Kart TV. The second was the amazing new promotion, if you buy a copy of Mario Kart 8 before the end of July you’ll get one of ten free Wii U games.

New items were also announced for the game and one of them is a big one. The pesky blue Spiny Shell? Well now you can defeat it. The new Super Horn item literally blows away all other items. The horn is so powerful it will even blow away other racers. The Mario Kart 8 Crazy Eight may look just like the games logo, but it’ll swirl through eight different items – one of them may be the Super Horn.

Two new playable racers were also revealed during the direct. The heavyweight Pink Gold Peach is the yin to the yang that is Metal Mario. It really is a Peach made out of Pink Gold and she glows. Baby Rosalina is also the newest baby to join the line up and of course you can pick your Mii – that’s 30 different characters to pick from.

Those 30 racers can pick either a kart or a bike and Nintendo also detailed the many many different kart customization options. There’s even a Steel Diver themed one, like we said. Many.

The Direct ends with a look at the games music, most of it has been recorded live with real instruments. It really does sound great.
