Nintendo responds to claims that 3DS price is too steep

Unfazed, the company believes the 3DS is “really good value”

Nintendo has always been the leader of innovation in the video console market. So whats the price of innovation? Nintendo of America believes its US$249.99, the same price the Wii was when it launched there. Retailers in Europe, however, think they can get away with £229.99, a whopping £50 more than the Wii cost at launch.

Nintendo of Europes Managing Director, David Yarnton, tries to justify the 3DSs seemingly high price point. "Its just that we dont set the retail price. Someone can sell our products for whatever they want to. We dont control that," he says. "As much as theres a plethora of devices out there for all sorts of things, you cant get a 3D gaming experience on anything else apart from the 3DS." Well hes certainly right about that. When you think about it, how could you put a value on something when theres nothing else like it on the market?

Hopefully were not hit hard when Nintendo Australia reveals the price of the 3DS here. Thatll be known at a media event well be attending on February 8.
