Could be a lot better, could be a lot worse.

Nintendo’s latest quarterly results have been posted and its a case of could be better, could be worse, especially for the Wii U. The results cover the last nine months of 2012.

Nintendo has posted total net sales of just over 543 billion yen (~6billion AUD) for the period, it’s made them a net profit of 14.545 billion yen. The first for some time. However the the bottom line is still bad with Nintendo’s operating loss coming in at 5.857 billion yen.

With official figures now in, we can now see how the Wii U has done since launch too. Nintendo have sold 3.06 million units, it’s far off track of Nintendo’s target of 5.5million sales by the end of March that Nintendo has revised that forecast to just 4 million. The Nintendo 3DS sold 12.71 million in the same period, 5 million of those in Japan alone. Nintendo believe that they will sell 15 million by March. There are now 29.84 million 3DS consoles sold.

The Nintendo DS and Wii have dived severely with the DS recording 2.15 million units sold and the Wii selling just 3.53 million units. The Wii is just shy of the magic 100 million sitting on 99.38 million sold, hopefully it gets there just to be nice and round.

The Wii U hasn’t got off to the start Nintendo had hoped and now with these results its clear Nintendo doesn’t think it will do as well as they thought before March.
