Today Nintendo was able to stand proud, as the handheld gaming kingpin increased its profit forecast for the sale of DS consoles by a whopping 20%. Expectations for their innovative new home system, the Nintendo Wii, were also increased in the light of it being a sell out success across the globe since its launch late last year.

The net income will rise to 120 billion yen ($1 billion USD) for the year to March 31, as compared with an October estimate for 100 billion yen, the Kyoto-based company said in a statement today. Just a year earlier Nintendo reported a 98.4 billion yen profit.
Enterbrain Inc, a Tokyo based research firm, touts the heightened success as a result of Nintendo driving sales of both old franchise favourites as Super Mario Bros, while also introducing new themes and captivating new audiences with games such as Nintendogs.
Nintendo raised its sales forecast for DS consoles this fiscal year by 15 percent to 23 million units and software by 22 percent to 100 million units. Sales of Wii games will reach 21 million this year, compared with an earlier target of 17 million, while the company left its full-year target for Wii console sales unchanged at 6 million units.
No doubt things are looking the better for Nintendo than they have in years with the roaring success of the DS and the Wii, and it seems they predict things to get even better. Financial critics and fanboys alike think Nintendo is a winner.
