Nintendo pulled in Retro Studios to help finish Mario Kart 7 in time

Rushed to finish the game this year, called in extra support

Mario Kart series producer, Hideki Konno has revealed that Nintendo rushed Mario Kart 7 to be released this year. They pulled in extra support from Retro Studios as a an act of emergency. Considering the game started with only 8 people on board, its hardly surprising considering the software draught the 3DS has had. Mario Kart 7 started with only 8 people working on it but even they were pulled over to the Nintendogs + Cats team in order to get that ready for launch. It sounds like a crazy year over at the big N.

To make it out on time Retro Studios, creators of Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong Country Returns were called in to complete all the retro courses in the game. While they were only supposed to do one, it turned out so well they got the job of doing them all. Nintendos internal teams created all the original tracks. If only 8 people were on Mario Kart 7, it makes you wonder – just how much money does Nintendo need to make before they can hire more people? Lets hope the game isnt rushed, since Super Mario 3D Land and Skyward Sword have been so terrific, Mario Kart 7 might have gotten lost in the shuffle.

Mario Kart 7 is out in Australia on Saturday, yes a Saturday.
